Jesus On the Cross Was No Weekend Fun
So Jesus actually died on the cross on a Friday known and referred to by Christians world over as Good Friday?
Yes,he died on the cross and that was not a weekend fun.It was a serious heavenly mandate by God that he should take upon himself the sins of mankind. For the Scripture has said that; "Without the shedding of blood there would be no remission of sin".
Certainly Jesus was not on a heroic weekend adventure to proof his importance in the world's scheme of things. He was on a mission to accomplish the divine agenda for the redemption of mankind.
Adam and Eve had sinned in the beginning and therefore brought about the alienation of mankind from God.To "buy" mankind back to fellowship with God, Jesus had to pay the price with his life on the Cross on that black Friday popularly known by Christians as Good Friday.
Good Friday is so regarded because it was on that Friday that the numerous woes of those who will believe was nailed to the Cross. But to Jesus in his human form it was not a Good Friday though he was set to accomplish the will of the Father.
Death on the Cross means agony of unimaginable dimension.Cruxificion was,and is still an excruciating experience .While on the Cross Jesus felt that the Father had forsaken him. Also he had wished that if it was the will of the Father(God); "Let this cup pass over me'' He was mocked as though he was a common criminal. He was mocked and when thirsty was given vinegar to drink.
To show the import of that Friday, the Bible has it that; "About the sixth hour there was darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour. And the sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was rent in the midst",John 23:44,45 - King James Version.
Indeed,it was not a weekend of fun. This is why Christians all over the world commemorate heaven's kindness as demonstrated by the love that motivated Jesus' death for sinful humanity,to redeem them.
If Jesus could die our love to win,and our lives to redeem from the slavery of sin, then we owe him our all.
