By Magnificent Words,His Praise Stands
From generation to generation, the hymns serve Christians everywhere in the worship of God,the Creator and Sustainer of the universe.
By His words, the words of God creation came into being, according to His perfect design. He gave commands that stood.
After creation, the benefits of words given form in speech began to serve the purposes of God ,especially in the area of the praise of the Almighty.
By magnificent words His praise stood. And hymns remain the way by which worshippers make their praise of God to stand.Take for example the hymn; Ancient & Modern 167.That hymn is the handiwork of an inspired hymn writer who marshaled magnificent words about creation,God's power, protection and care.
Consider the following lines :
- " Our Shield and Defender, the Ancient of Days, pavilioned in splendour and girded with praise".
- "Thy bountiful care what tongue can recite ? "
- " O measureless Might ,ineffable Love, while angels delight to hymn thee above,Thy ransomed creation ,though feeble their lays, with true adoration shall sing to thy praise".
All lines above acknowledge God's character and greatness, and inspires the thoughtful worshipper beyond measure.
