Guidelines that Make Marriage Work

Marriage is the union between a man and woman .Its origin is traceable to Genesis 2:18 " And the LORD God said,it is not good for a man to be alone,I will make him an help meet for him". Because of the importance of this institution there are guidelines meant for successful relationship between couples,to ensure the smooth running of society since the home is the bedrock of the society.

Wives don't have issues with loving. It is natural with them, except where there are intrinsic conflicts affecting the feeling of love.

They don't need help in the area of loving but much help is needed in the area of respect.Majority of women have struggles in the area of respect for their husbands. This could be due to unmet expectations, better earning power, education, social status, family background or plain bad habits picked up from association with other women with similar habits.

Women who have struggles with the idea of respect for their husbands may not be conscious of what  their real motivations are,and will therefore present the argument that nothing is wrong with their behavior.Yet their husbands and onlookers know beyond an iota of doubt that something is fundamentally wrong.

It is important to heed the Creator's guidelines that make marriage work or succeed.Ephesians 5:21 " Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God".And then verse 22,"Wives, submit yourselves unto your husbands, as unto the Lord".To husbands, the guideline is - "Husbands love your wives, even as Christ also loved the Church, and gave himself for it".(verse 25).

When married people heed the counsel of the originator of marriage there will be peace and happiness in the homes.Much of the unrest in homes are traceable to ignorance of these guidelines or blatant refusal to play by the rules.

God knows the makeup of both man and woman, and their inherent desires in a relationship. When a husband loves the wife she will open up, as flowers open up to sunshine. And if the wife respects the husband,he will feel the obligation to protect her and provide her.

The way to peace in marriage is a smooth one .It is better to comply in one's best interest.
